%X The environmental problems observed in the city of Natal are almost in its totality fruits of an expansion of its urban spot made without planning, modifying, of this form, the landscape of the city. Mainly over the decade of 70, the urban spot in Natal had a considerable increase, mainly because of the implantation of the horizontal habitational sets. These habitational sets conducts the growth of the city for the areas of environmental fragility, as natural dunes and lagoons. This way, we can observe an intrinsic relation between urban expansion and environmental impacts in the city. The proposal of this work is to show, in a cartographic form, the evolution of the expansion of the urban spot in Natal, since the year of 1969 until the year of 2002 as a subsidy for the understanding of the environmental impacts generated by this process. For this, geoprocessing techniques had been used, through the interpretation of cartographic data generated from products of remote sensing (aerial and orbital) and for posterior cartographic restitution.
